What’s your take on the sound coming out from the Silicon Valley with that of the Bay Area?   I think there is a lot more variety coming out of San Jose. Artists here have nothing to lose when it comes to being artistic. So the creative process becomes without boundary. In my opinion it makes for better art because everything is more laid back. In bigger cities everyone is competing and vying to become the next big thing. Not to say there isnt competition in the SV, but it doesnt feel like there is so much pressure on the music scene to always produce the next big hit compared to cities such as SF, NY, LA.

In terms of your question, I think the major misunderstanding between Hip-Hop and Rap is the category in which each is placed. Rap is one element to Hip-Hop, whereas Hip-Hop is the culture in its entirety. You see this a lot with just about any "Hip-Hop" artist in the past ten years. People who think that just because they can rap, that makes them Hip-Hop. Wrong, Hip-Hop is the culture. So even if you have some decent raps, your overall lifestyle and the subject matter of your works can completely demolish your Hip-Hop Pass if you are misrepresenting the culture. Common went to Haiti and filmed "Sweet" with no security, Drake can't do that. That's the difference. Tapping into the human complexity of our disillusions of numbers, Shankey Srinivasan film “Area Codes”, draws into the fascination with numbers being the secondary and death being the primary subject. My perspective on Street art has always been foggy when it comes to appreciation. A lot of buzz has been around the internet with the thought process behind the image of local street artist. Art is the visual distortion of reality. A long time local San Jose artist has taken a new direction in repping the Chip into a new light for people in the appreciation of what fine art should be. Looking into his style, you begin to wonder what the road one must have taken to reach this complexity in visual distortion. His blending is absolutely incredible. What this man does with a spray can is truly a gift. Jimmy Fonseca, provides this gift of describing beauty with forcing the canvas to bleed with life of color and finesse. I'm just one person, don't think I could give a proper definition. My interpretation of it is this: It's a vast sea of talent, like chess, there's a lot of cats making moves but very few plotting 10 moves ahead. However, those who are..are eating, those who aren't..are hating on those who got their bellies full first. At the end of the day, everyone here is looking out for their family, and I def respect that. As of late, I've even seen more cats building with different subdivisions of camps, which is dope. Final thought, I wish there was less talk and more action.  Less hate and more support amongst the artists/camps/collectives.
