MF Bang'n Ocalaholics from San Jose, CALIFORNIA
Ramon: Are
you up for an interview at the moment? I had been trying to reach you guys for
hella long.
Ocalaholics: Yah, I’m down. Let’s do this
Ramon: I
just want to say Big Ups and thank you for the pleasure of this interview. How
would you guys describe your background? Like food growing up and musical
influences?
Ocalaholics: No
doubt. Oh man I can’t speak on behalf of the whole krew on that one, lol. We
all have different Influences.
Ramon: Culturally or
ethnicity, the world wants to hear on your perspective on living in America but
with you know; on that culture SWAGG.
Ocalaholics: We’re
all Filipino.Jrod is Filipino and Black. We all grew up around the same homies.
Ramon: Would you guys
say that you grew up on that Fast Food or that Good Ol’ home Cooked GRUB?
Ocalaholics: I’d say
we grew up on that good Ol’ Mom’s cooking all the time. Comfort food, know what
I mean. LOL. There was always food, especially in a Filipino house.
Ramon: Fo Sho! What’s
your take on setting the stones for your people who see you guys as an
inspiration?
Ocalaholics: Man, I
think it’s a blessing.
Ramon: Much RESPECT.
Ocalaholics: The way
you can reach out to the people through our music is just an amazing talent. We
are just as blessed to have inspired people, but at the same time, they inspire
us.
Ramon: You guys came
out the gates as a crew, rather than, soloing it; why is that?
Ocalaholics: I think it’s cuz we’ve always
been homies, you know? And we got that tight nitch. Family values so to say.
These guys aren’t just my krew, they are my brothers as a krew. There are so
many different perspectives and different situations that we’ve all been
through throughout our lives and I think we all just mesh well together.
Ramon: Mad respect.
Ocalaholics:
Different styles. Different paths in life and we all are just trying to get the
same goal.
Ramon: What’s your
take on artist becoming self-independent with the help of social internet
media?
Ocalaholics: Without
all the label reps. Everone gor their hand in something with one of your songs…
next thing you know, it sounds completely different. So I think it’s a good
thing. Plus the internet is a BEAST! I mean look at us now, as simple as
conducting an interview through a chat room.
Ramon: You know it!
Ocalaholics: Yah, so
I think its dope man.
Ramon: Being out of
San Jose, CA. What would you say is unique over other places?
Ocalaholics: I think
it’s just the diversity. Also, everywhere else it’s a competition. San Jose is
like a melting pot. Everyone comes together. Not on a, “No man, yes man” hype.
It’s just the mutual respect that people have for each other here is dope.
Ramon: Last question.
Aside from that home cooked grub, what’s your favorite chow spot out here in
the ZAE?
Ocalaholics: La Costa
never fails me.
