Love Star A band adding flavor to this Melting Pot of the Bay

Respecting the adversaries culture faces in a country like America, states like Arizona show just what is the real truth of being different for expressing different shades of culture. Here is a band, Love Star, that is the real truth of maybe what Jimmy Hendrix or the Beatles would of been facing during their times to play music from a different blend. Their music is different, but what stays the same is embracing your culture and continuing to share your passion with others.

How long have you guys been playing for?

Individually we have all been playing for many years. Joe and Will started playing their instruments in their teens and Adriana has been singing since she was 5 yrs. old and she recently picked up keyboards.

What culture barriers do you face?

We don't recall ever running across any barriers really. Adriana was born in Mexico. Joe was born in the U.S. but is of Mexican origin, and Will is from here but everyone assumes he's from Guadalajara though so it seems to work itself out. :) One thing we do occasionally run into is promoters automatically wanting to place us in their "Spanish rock night" as soon as they find out we are a bilingual. It's totally cool with us, but we think it's kind of funny. We've come to the conclusion that it's more due to the fact that there are less Spanish and bi-lingual bands out there so they are just trying to set up their nights according to that. It doesn't really matter though as long as they're great shows and we give the best performance we possibly can.

What does a city like San Jose hold for future bands like yourselves?
In short: a lot of opportunity. Every city that we've had the chance to perform in has it's own unique crowd, energy, personality, etc. As an example, San Jose and Salinas are totally different places as well as Chicago and New York. It's great because we get to feed off of that energy when we perform and every new place has a new energy of its own.

Do you feel language being a burden with today's technology?

If anything, language has become less of a burden because of technology if it ever really was. Everyday the world gets a little smaller with faster phones, computers, etc. While it's a challenge to try to stand out and not get lost in all of it, it also creates a lot of opportunity. In our case, being able to write songs in two different languages is a unique quality that helps us stand out.

Hopes and dreams for the future?

They're endless! :) Actually one of our dreams has recently come true... we just started working on our first full length album with 14 time Grammy winning producer Thom Russo. He has worked with a very wide range of artist from Audio Slave to Juanes to Michael Jackson to System of a Down. It's really exciting to have the opportunity to work with someone with such a diverse resume and we cant wait to see how the music ends up coming out. We'll also be out touring in the summer to promote the album which at our best guess will be out sometime in the late Spring or early Summer. We have aspirations to tour in Mexico as well as Europe and Asia.

Thanks for the interview.
