"Addiction" from Ramon Leon Rivera

ADDICTION

Addiction Addiction, I’ve seen best friends spit blood by rubbing their gums. Love turn to lust and humanity turn to insanity. My streets run with my own people scamming their old elementary classmates just to go purchase a new pair of sneaks. Everyone seems to have forgotten who they once were, because the ones who were suppose to be fathers forgot what their own parents had taught them. The foolish thoughts of a quick buck has done more damage to the people I remember in my memories than who the front runner for the next presidential candidate is going to be. Dreams are no longer anything respectable anymore, dreams consist of new phones or new products made from people who choose to poison the people who feed their families. Police don’t protect the streets; we’re just numbers to them in their checking account. Addiction comes in any form that allows its user to escape the reality of what lies when they step out the front door. Our youth, are constantly plugged into the bullshit that comes in the form of the top 10 countdown. How lost how we’ve become to accept the drug pushers that run from police or children feeling pressured to do what others manipulate them into doing. We chase applications because we search for the acceptance from HR to tell us we can work for them but not ourselves. For those that have managed to see past a quick meal, can see the bright light their sacrifices’ can bring. Addiction can come in many forms, from selling stupid shit dope bags, or doing wrong when you know what is right. We are no longer living in a society that rewards hard work. We are now living in this parasitic structured pyramid scheme that is known as, “CAPITIALISM under Democracy.” We cry and protest to the people that believe in taxation without equal representation, so why do we pay the taxes to one unified government rather than 50 equal governments. They’ve lied to us for the past 60 years to set up McDonalds and Pizza-Hut corporations. It’s time we start breaking from addiction and wake up from this horrible nightmare that’s slowly forced itself into our lives.
